Bamboo is a type of grass which boasts similar characteristics to hardwood, although bamboo is significantly denser and stronger. Bamboo also grows significantly faster than timber, thereby presenting an environmentally friendly alternative to hardwood flooring.

Astoria bamboo floors are made from extremely durable Moso and Bamwood bamboo and have the sophisticated look and feel of native timber floors, without the cost to the environment.

Strand woven bamboo is a sustainable alternative to native timber floors, and bamboo plantations regenerate within five years, compared to commercially grown native timbers that can take up to 60 years to reach maturity.

Moso and Bamwood are types of bamboo which have an exceptionally high tensile strength, and are considered the strongest bamboo. The bamboo poles are cut, carbonised, steamed and compressed under pressure to create the highest quality flooring.

Astoria bamboo flooring boards have been independently tested for hardness and durability:

Janka hardness rating = 14 kN (compared to Tasmanian oak = 5.5kN)
